During the month of November, Nenagh Library, with the artist Pauline Goggin, will host a series of presentations and artist talks with mini workshops (approx 1hr.) Pauline, with a background in art teaching and psychotherapy, is a new resident in Nenagh since 2022 and has a lifelong art practice which she hopes will develop and flourish in the Tipperary air.
At this time of year, when the veils between life and death are more transparent, we think of our dead. Remembering the souls of the dead is something that many cultures and traditions highlight at this time of the year.
From the fiestas of Mexico, the annual remembrance ceremonies of Mozambique and the more mysterious rituals of New Guinea to the November cemetery patterns and ceremonies of All Souls day in Ireland, these global rituals and customs all have something in common, a need to celebrate and remember the lives of those mourned. Pauline will draw on some cultural responses to create objects of remembrance as well as talking about the resource which art has been in her own experience of loss and grief.
So join Pauline in Nenagh library, on Wednesday, 1st November, for a lunch time talk on ‘Life, Death and Love,’ starting at 1.00pm. Talks will also run on Tuesday evenings 7th and 14th of November at 6.30pm
