Clonmel Library Lego Education Coding Club

Since the beginning of March Clonmel Library Lego Coding Club has gone from strength to strength. The club was established with the support of Calmast, the STEM Engagement Centre with South East Technological University. Their mission is to promote awareness of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the South East.

Children work in pairs to construct Lego robots and use a simple coding language to instruct the robot to perform different tasks. It’s a process that encourages critical thinking and helps develop communication and problem-solving skills. The club runs for six weeks at a time, for children aged 10+, and follows standard aligned Lego Education lesson plans.

Funding for next stage of the coding club has been kindly provided by Camida. This will allow for the upgrading of the current stock of robotic kits and the purchase of additional kits to cater for more participants. Anne Marie Mullins, Executive Librarian Clonmel Library, said

We are delighted to partner with Calmast and Camida to provide children in our area with fantastic opportunities. The library service is committed to helping children develop skills in science, technology, education and mathematics.
