Tipperary County Council Schools Library Service is an invaluable resource to schools throughout the county. We provide FREE support for all primary schools in Tipperary including Class Novel loans, Special Needs Loans and our new Sensory Toys and Resources loans. Requests from these collections will be sent to the branch nearest your school to facilitate convenient collection.
Contact your local branch about our Schools Library Service or, alternatively, you can e-mail libraries@tipperarycoco.ie. The service is located in the Library Headquarters offices in Thurles.
All Primary schools in County Tipperary can avail of the Class Novel loan service. The number of copies per set varies depending on demand. Novels can be borrowed for a maximum of 3 months. Class Novel sets can be ordered from the Schools Library Service in Thurles. Just get in touch via e-mail stating which novels you want and for what classes. Sets of novels will be delivered to whichever branch library is nearest your school or, alternatively, can be collected from Library Headquarters in Thurles.

Visits by schools to our library branches are always welcome. Visits can be arranged by contacting your local branch and picking a suitable time and date. Schools are also encouraged to use the library for class projects and research. As well as books we provide PC access and FREE WiFi. There are also printing, photocopying and scanning services available.
Librarians can also make visits into classrooms to talk about the services we provide and maybe do a Storytime too! These will have to be arranged giving reasonable notice and can only be done when staff are available.
Our Tipperary Studies local history department also welcomes visits from both primary and secondary schools. We have a huge archive of materials available to view, including a vast selection of significant historical documents. Tipperary Studies is located in The Source Library Thurles. Established to support Special Needs and Learning Support staff in the primary schools of County Tipperary, the aim of this service is to provide teachers with varied and quality material that can help children of all ages with all sorts of learning and reading difficulties. This extremely popular service is utilised by over 180 teachers. Loan allocation depends on the number of pupils a teacher has. However, every effort is made to make sure each teacher gets what they need from the service. While the service is flexible the majority of teachers use it during September and October. You can e-mail your requests to the Schools Library Service at libraries@tipperarycoco.ie. Many publishers also provide online resources, which can supplement your book stock and provide entertaining games and activities.
The Schools’ Library Van visits over 150 schools throughout Tipperary in rotation. Generally, the van will visit each school twice a year. Pupils can select from a range of fiction and non-fiction titles including picture books, graphic novels and titles from some of the most popular children’s authors. The book stock on the van is continuously updated and rotated to provide access to new books and a wide variety of topics.
